A note from Lisa-Marie: special thanks to Jim Dillard, for once again coordinating with the wonderful staff at Leesylvania State Park. We had a nice turn out of volunteers to help paint the outside of the park store. The work party consisted of Jim, Christy, Tim (and family dog, Juneau) of the Dillard Clan, Geoff Fuller, Bob Gotthardt, John Hart, Tom Hutton, Laura Lake (and new puppy) and myself. Unfortunately we got the “after” picture “after” Laura had to leave 😉
The staff was extremely appreciative of all of our help and enjoyed chatting with us while we painted. It was quite funny, as I was told by Christy that I think the last time the building was painted was the last time Fleet 50 painted it! I enjoyed hearing recollections of the many volunteer projects our fleet has helped with at the park since I was one of the “relative” newbies at the event (this was only my 3rd year).
The Leesylvania Park Cleanup is this Saturday, 9:00-12:00! Let Lisa-Marie know if you can help. This is a great way to give back and to make sure that we can keep using the park for the Doc Gilbert Memorial Potomac Cup Regatta!
Fleet 50’s signature regatta, the Doc Gilbert Potomac Cup, will be held on May 2-3 this year. Join us in beautiful Leesylvania State Park for the 31st running of this fantastically fun family friendly regatta. In keeping with tradition the regatta will feature great racing, scenic camping accommodations, our legendary steak & salmon BBQ, beer from our wonderful sponsor Yuengling, and more!
Sign up now on the ILCA “Who’s Coming?” List to let us know that you’ll be there, and keep an eye on the Doc Gilbert Potomac Cup Regatta Webpage for more information!
Fleet 50 Members: please remember that Saturday, April 25, will be our Park Cleanup Day at Leesylvania State Park. This fun and fulfilling day of service is what we do to be able to use the park and pavilion area for our regatta. Please let Jim Dillard know if you are available to help with the cleanup (email@example.com). We usually work through mid-afternoon and then head over to Tim’s for some seafood and frosty beverages!
