First, a big thanks to the PRSA Exec Board and everyone who had a hand in organizing the post racing cook out. You outdid yourself in providing a spread. It was a great opportunity to meet new folks who had joined us for the first day racing, reacquaint ourselves with members who had joined us for racing last year, and a chance to catch up with friends we hadn’t seen since the fleet banquet or the end of the Fall Series.
The day’s original forecast called for west winds of 5 to 15. As a pleasant surprise we ended up with temperatures in the 60s and winds out of the south around 10 with a few occasional stronger puffs later in the day. This was a good start to the year. The catamaran fleet as RC committee mixed it from our usual windward leeward courses by setting Olympic courses for the day’s 3 races. This gave us all a chance to reach with our spinnakers.
Nine Lightnings came out racing. Chris Kozel couldn’t make it but he loaned String Theory to keep it out on the water. Peter Lallas and his crew brought out 12416 and joined us racing. We look forward to continuing to see his boat on the line. Michelle Greenhalgh as PRSA crew coordinator had been in contact with Bob Gotthardt and Rene Ward both are on the PRSA or Fleet 50 crew list and they showed up on Sunday by the cranes looking for a ride. They ended up sailing on 14376 with Will Phillippe along with Rene’s son. If you need crew give them a shout because they are interested in all of the possibilities racing a Lightning.
Reminder: there is no racing on Sunday April 8th. Spring Series #2 resumes on Sunday April 15th.
