We had a great turnout, with 7 Lightnings boats ready to race, sunny skies, temperatures in the 70s and plenty of wind blowing up the river from the south.
Red and Sue and Bruce and Lisbet were confident enough to doublehand their boats. Bob Astrove had his woodie out. Chris Kozael, Liz and Nicole were on String Theory. Nabeel, Scott, and Jess were out on Shadowfax. Resistance is Futile returned to the water with Frank, Bob, and Mladen. 14376 had Will, Brian , and Alex all sailing together for the first time in close to a year.
Winds were blowing 10 to 15 with gusts when we left the dock requiring plenty of tacks down the channel before we could reach our way across and then head up the river to the upper course. Race committee set us up for windward leeward three times around. Most boats opted to fly their jibs for the first downwind in the gusty conditions but by the second downwind it had calmed down enough for many of us to have the confidence to put the spinnakers up and enjoy the ride. By the third downwind the wind had picked up closer to 20 with even higher gusts. We all returned to shore after finishing the race to start the season by gathering at the grill to recap the day.
